gEDA/PCB

PCB is the circuit board layout component of the gEDA open source Electronics Design Automation suite, a complete set of tools for electronics design, simulation and pre-production. While very powerful in skilled hands, it has lacked the user friendliness desired for wider adoption, particularly in education and the growing open hardware community. Linux Fund is raising money to update PCB's user interface, as well as add powerful capabilities found in modern proprietary layout editors.

Work description:

• Implement forward annotation using action scripts
• GUI modernization
• Enhance ability to create and edit arbitrary layer types
• Develop a new Footprint Editor
• Update Design Rule Checking

• Forward annotation: $7,000
• GUI update: $12,000
• Layer handling update: $9,000
• Footprint Editor: $6,500
• Design Rule Checking: $4,500

Step one fundraising goal: $7,000 – Raised to date: $3,200
