Q. What is the Linux Fund? A: The Linux Fund was founded in 1999 at the peak of the high-tech boom. Q. What's the big idea? A. We financially support projects based on Free and Open Source Software (F/OSS). It's part of our vision for making the world a better place. Q. What is your Future? A: In addition to development we support the maintenance of projects that have proven themselves. The current criteria is that the projects have to have a substantial user base (over 10,000 users) and they should be significant for the future in some way. We are only willing to fund content projects if they are open source in nature. Q. What are some projects that you support?
Freenode An interactive network that provides resources to a variety of communities, including those involved with Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). The network has a staff of about 20 volunteers who contribute varying amounts of their time; staff activities include 24/7 operations, assistance to users, code development and maintenance and problem resolution. Wikipedia: a Web-based, free-content encyclopedia written collaboratively by volunteers and sponsored by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation. It has editions in roughly 200 different languages (about 100 of which are active) and contains entries both on traditional encyclopedic topics and on almanac, gazetteer, and current events topics. Its purpose is to create and distribute a free international encyclopedia in as many languages as possible. Wikipedia is one of the most popular reference sites on the internet, [1] receiving around 60 million hits per day. A: At this point we are not accepting donations.
